The Diné College Crownpoint Center recently hosted Student Wellness Week from April 13 to April 17, 2026, bringing together students, staff, and community members for a week focused on student wellness, academic success, and cultural connection.
Designed to support the whole student, Student Wellness Week offered hands-on activities, learning opportunities, and space for reflection during a busy time in the semester. In a KXWR radio interview, Academic Success Coach Tyrel Pablo shared that the goal was to create an environment where students feel supported not only in their academics, but also in their mental, physical, and cultural well-being.

Throughout the week, students engaged in a variety of sessions that highlighted different aspects of wellness.
The week began with sound healing sessions and a motivational talk from Dr. Amanda Cheromiah. Her message connected deeply with students, especially as she shared stories rooted in cultural values and resilience.

One participant reflected, “When Ms. Cheromiah was sharing her stories, it felt like knowledge is like a spiderweb, where everything is connected. Her message reminded me to keep going, even when things feel difficult in school, life, or my spiritual journey.”
Students also participated in equine assisted learning, where they experienced the relationship between horses and Diné culture in a hands-on way. Many shared that this was one of the most meaningful parts of the week, offering both connection and personal growth.

Midweek, the Crownpoint Center provided on-site registration support for Summer and Fall 2026. Students met with advisors, checked their degree progress, and completed their schedules in one place. This helped reduce stress and made the registration process easier to navigate.
Nutrition and traditional knowledge were highlighted during food demonstrations, where students learned how to prepare traditional foods and incorporate healthier practices into their daily lives.

“A great take from the session was learning about traditional foods and how to incorporate it into my life to improve my health,” one student shared.
The week concluded with a Tie Dye Walk and Run at Kinyaananii Trail, encouraging students to stay active while building community. The event brought a sense of energy and connection to close out the week.
Students who attended multiple sessions shared how impactful the experience was overall.

“All the knowledge and guidance from the presentations showed me what wellness means to me, my health, and my mind,” one student said. “All presenters showed me what certain healing can do for my overall well-being.”
